175th Anniversary

To celebrate our 175th anniversary we held a number of special services and events during the year and were pleased that a number of local churches and groups were able to join us in these celebrations

We started the celebrations with a Flower Festival over the weekend of 21st and 22nd April.  This was on ththeme of “Chariots of Fire” and was a great success. We were very pleased that flower-arrangers from a number of local churches joined our own flower-arrangers to create a wonderful series of flower arrangements

On the following weekend, the Bishop of Chelmsford, Rt Revd. Stephen Cottrell, joined us to lead a special service of celebration.

On 23rd June a church outing was organised to see “The Life of Christ” at the Wintershall Estate.

We opened the Church one Saturday morning in July when the Olympic torch passed outside the church on its way up Moulsham Street and provided much-welcomed refreshments to those who had got up early to watch this event. Then we joined with other churches across the country to ‘ring in’ the Olympics on the day of the opening ceremony

Our next weekend of celebration took place on 14th and 15th July when we held a special Summer Fete on the Saturday and an open air Songs of Praise service on the Sunday afternoon. Despite appalling weather, the weekend was well supported with lots of involvement by local schools and churches.

In July we also  held the Abbotsford Open Garden.

We concluded our programme of celebrations with two events in the run-up to Christmas.  On 24th November, as part of the Moulsham Traders Association “Winter Wonderland” Christmas event, we hosted a carol service on the church path.  We had worked on this new venture with the Life Church and, despite the poor weather, it was well attended.

On 8th December, we held a special Christmas Bazaar to round off the 175th anniversary celebrations
