Community Planting

The community planters behind you were established as part of our Green Space project to create this green oasis in 2025. We work with a variety of community organisations and schools to plant and harvest seasonal produce.

We’re always looking for gardening volunteers, so if you have some time to spare and would like to join us please send us an email!

Help yourself to Herbs scheme

We operate a help yourself scheme for our herb planter (when there is plentiful produce to harvest). If you would like to take some herbs for your home cooking, please borrow a pair of cutters or bring your own along! We just ask that you follow our responsible foraging guidelines:

  • Take only what you need
  • Know what you’re picking
  • Cut above the growth point
  • Avoid uprooting
  • Leave plenty for others and for regrowth

Family Fun

Fun Fact

The first vegetables we ever grew in our planters were onions and potatoes, which we grew by planting… you guessed it… little potatoes and onions!

Activity

Rub the herbs gently between your fingers and smell. Do you know any of the names? We have different herbs at different times of year but can you recognise any of the following?

Oregano (great on pizza)

Fennel (delicious on fish)

Mint (makes a lovely tea)

Chives (tasty with cream cheese)

Sage (crispy and delicious when roasted with carrots!)
