Marvellous Mosaic

The beautiful community mosaic on the back wall of the quiet garden was created by Essex based Potter and mosaic artist Peter Harrington with the help of a whopping 519 members of local community over the course of 14 workshops! Workshop participants assisted with everything from the design of the motifs, shapes and swirls, to tile cutting and setting, before Peter finished the making process back at his studio.

The bible verse woven into the design is an extract from John 14:27. It was chosen for its inclusive message, as St John’s is a church who welcomes everybody:

Peace I leave with you. My peace I give you. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

You will find the next post on the other side of the quiet garden. If you would like a little guidance for mindfulness in this space, please take a look before you go into the garden. Otherwise, please feel free to make your way straight in find your own moment of calm.

How many different colours can you spot in the mosaic?

How many different shapes can you see? What words would you use to describe them? (we called some of the shapes ‘eyes’ and some ‘teardrops’)
