Green Space volunteering

Our recently completed Green Space at St. John’s provides the local community with a beautiful oasis of green on the edge of central Chelmsford, complete with a quiet garden for reflection, a storytelling area, a wildflower meadow, an outdoor heritage trail and three large community veg beds.

If you’d like to offer your time as a Green Space Garden Volunteer, please read on!

A group of people gardening together outdoors, planting and turning soil in a raised wooden bed on a residential street, with houses and a low brick wall in the background.

We would welcome any enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals to join our small team of Green Space Churchyard volunteers and local organisations like Mencap and Chelmsford College, who currently help maintain the space. Volunteering hours are completely flexible and can be done according to your own availability, but we do require a regular commitment of a minimum twice per month, particularly during the summer months. No prior experience is necessary, but we’d welcome applications from gardening enthusiasts and encourage those with horticultural knowledge to get stuck in and help us shape our beautiful new outdoor space.

We also welcome applications from local organisations and companies wishing to provide their employees with a regular local volunteering opportunity.

If this sounds like an opportunity you would be interested in, please complete our ‘Basic Info Form’ and email it to enquiries@stjohnsmoulsham.org.uk. Once we’ve received your form we will invite you for an informal chat and a tour of the space and ask that you complete a Confidential Agreement form. We are dedicated to safer and inclusive recruitment in all areas of our work at St John’s, including the Green Space.
