What is it?
As an inclusive church, St John’s is delighted to offer the commended Church of England “Prayers of Love and Faith”, both in private pastoral situations and also in our regularly scheduled public Sunday or weekday services. The “Prayers of Love and Faith” provide prayer with and for same-sex couples who love one another, who are in faithful, committed relationships, and who wish to give thanks for and mark that love in faith before God.
What should I expect?
The commended Prayers of Love and Faith have been written specifically for same-sex couples, because no provision is currently made for them through public forms of prayer. There are a range of prayers that can be used, expressing thanksgiving and hope, with prayer that those who are dedicating their life together to God may grow in faith, love and service as God’s blessing rests upon them. The “Prayers of Love and Faith” are not a form of marriage service, and they cannot currently be offered in a service that is solely focused on these prayers. In discussion with our priest, you can decide which of these prayers you would like to be offered and in what context.
What comes next?
If you live in the parish or nearby, and would like to discuss having these Prayers at St John’s, please contact our priest, Fr John, at frjohnbloomer@gmail.com . He will then contact you to talk about the possibility of Prayers of Love and Faith for you and your partner.
